DESCRIPTION This study-unit involves small group tutorials to enable students to draw upon knowledge from education, linguistics, biomedical and behavioural sciences and applies this to the core discipline of speech language pathology (SLP). The unit takes the form of problem based learning to enable the students to acquire knowledge that will reflect the best possible service for adults with communication difficulties.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to assist students with applying theoretical knowledge acquired during the previous years of studies to understand the role of the SLP professional in managing adults with a communication disability.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to approach and analyze communication breakdown and plan evidence-based therapeutic interventions.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to achieve professional competences recognised within Europe and internationally that reflect skills and attitudes expected of new graduates of SLP across the world.

Draws up all selected reading suggested in study-units related to communication therapy in adulthood.
