Post of Teaching Associate/ Senior Teaching Associate in Dental Public Health
Department of Oral Rehabilitation and Community Care- Faculty of Dental Surgery

Applications are invited for a post of Teaching Associate / Senior Teaching Associate in Dental Public Health in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation and Community Care within the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the University of Malta.

 The appointee will be required to contribute to the administrative duties and teaching up to and including MQF Level 5, in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation and Community Care within the Faculty of Dental Surgery, and as may be required by the University.

The appointment will be on an indefinite basis, subject to a one-year probationary period, up to statutory retirement age. 


Teaching Associate

Applicants will be required to have a first degree (Level 6) and a Master’s degree (Level 7) in the relevant discipline and a minimum of three (3) years relevant teaching experience. 

Senior Teaching Associate

Applicants will be required to have a first degree (Level 6) and a Master’s degree (Level 7) in the relevant discipline and a minimum of six (6) years relevant teaching experience. 


The annual salary for 2022 attached to Teaching Associate and Senior Teaching Associate is as follows;

Teaching Associate                                              €33,426 plus Academic Work Resources of €1,600.00  
Senior Teaching Associate                                   €37,141 plus Academic Work Resources of €1,600.00

Further Information

General Working Obligations:

A Teaching Associate/Senior Teaching Associate will be appointed on a full-time (40) hour per week basis between Monday to Friday out of which no more than half shall be devoted to teaching; or on a part-time contract specifying a fixed number of hours, out of which no more than half shall be dedicated to teaching.

A Teaching Associate/Senior Teaching Associate will be expected to work between 08:00 and 17:00 hours and beyond 17:00 hours no more than once per week. 


The Department of Oral Rehabilitation and Community Care

The Department of Oral Rehabilitation and Community Care is one of the departments within the Faculty of Dental Surgery and is primarily responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. The disciplines under the department include Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, Implantology, Gerodontology, Periodontics and Dental Hygiene, Dental Technology and Preventive and Community Dentistry. The Department holds a number of courses for students throughout the year. 

 

The Faculty of Dental Surgery is also in the process of expanding its teaching activities by establishing a new clinic in Gozo. 

 

The duties which the appointee may be expected to perform are: 

  • Teaching including tutorials and seminars, supervision of practical work and placements, monitoring on projects and other personally undertaken student enterprises. Clinical placements are held in Mater Dei Hospital, St. Vincent De Paul Residence, Gozo Clinic and the Mobile Dental Unit and other venues as organised by the Department and Faculty;
  • Preparing course materials;
  • Continuous assessment of students, setting and marking of examination papers including dissertations within established time-frames;
  • Participating in the administration of academic affairs at academic and university levels;
  • Contributing to national and regional development particularly in the area of specialisation and through cooperation with governmental, intergovernmental, regional and non-governmental institutions and services;
  • Any other relevant duties as may be required by the University. 

The Selection Procedures 

  • The evaluation of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application).
  • Short-listing of candidates.
  • An invitation to short-listed candidates to a Selection Board interview.
  • A short presentation on a subject allotted to short-listed candidates. 

The Selection Process

The selection process will follow the document “Guidelines for Members of Selection Boards in the Recruitment of Resident Academic Staff” (https://www.um.edu.mt/hrmd/policiesprocedures). 

In accordance with the guidelines, members of the Selection Board will establish the following selection criteria for the selection process:

  • Relevant academic qualifications
  • Relevant Academic / Work experience
  • Aptitude and suitability; and
  • Performance in interview

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Statues, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
