Writing Skills Modules in English – April/May 2009

The Office for Human Resources Management & Development, in collaboration with the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, organised three training programmes of 12 hours each in writing skills in English for administrative purposes.  This training programme was offered to University of Malta employees working in administration, faculties, institutes and centres.  The sessions were held for a total of 25 participants throughout April and May.

The tutors made participants aware of the importance of writing professional documents effectively.  They also provided participants with guidance on how to format communication documents that suit the needs of the receiver, how to make appropriate choices concerning style and tone, and how to avoid a range of common writing errors.  The modules covered during the training programme included:  Grammar and Cohesion; Style and Tone; Letter Writing; Emails; Notices and Memos; and Report Writing.
Participants were encouraged to work on sample material individually and in groups.   They were also given the opportunity to provide their general feedback on the training programme by means of an evaluation form.  Participants who attended to at least 80% of the programme were provided with a Certificate of Attendance.

The members of staff who attended the training programme were Daniela Armeni, Alison Bone, Shirley Borg, Krystle Bugeja, Therese Caruana, Melanie Ciantar Harrington, Adriana Crocker, Anne Marie Debono, Annabelle Doublet, Danielle Fava Naudi, Shelley-Ann Frendo, Dorothy Gatt, Rachael Giardina, Marchita Mangiafico, Kristina Micallef, Marisa Rizzo, Jacqueline Saliba, Monica Sammut, Josianne Schembri, Andrew Scicluna, Maria Spiteri, Rita Stirling, Maria Theuma Castelletti, Doris Wright, and Joanne Xuereb.
