The Office for Human Resources Management & Development organised another Orientation course programme in April 2010. This session was spread over three days between Tuesday 13th April and Thursday 15th April.
 
The programme was designed for new staff members who are support personnel and who were recently employed at the University of Malta. These employees work at the administration, faculties, centres and institutes within the University of Malta. The programme endeavoured to give the participants a basic overview and awareness of the organisational context within the University of Malta.

On the first day of the programme, a brief introductory session was given by Ms Karen Cacciattolo and Ms Amanda Ciantar. Subsequently, Dr Mary Anne Lauri, the Pro-Rector who is responsible for students and institutional affairs, gave a brief introduction of the University of Malta. The Director of Communications and Alumni Relations, Ms Patricia Camilleri related a brief history of the University of Malta and provided information on the functions of the Communications and Alumni Relations Office. Mr Mario Cassar illustrated the administrative set-up of the Faculties, Centres and Institutes via a power-point presentation, and explained the administrative work involved in overseeing students’ progression within the University. Mr Mark Debono, the Director of Finance gave a talk on the role of the Finance Office and Dr Oriella De Giovanni gave a brief talk on the Legal Office. Ms Angela Xuereb organised an interactive presentation, conducted at the IT Services Labs regarding the use of the University’s website. Finally, Ms Anna Callus gave a presentation on the role of the International & EU Office.

The second day started off with a campus tour by Ms Daphne Kelleher, who highlighted the most significant locations and buildings. This was followed by an introduction to the Staff Welfare Fund by Mr Benny Borg Bonello and Mr Tonio Agius. Ms Edith Boffa then gave details about the role of the Chaplaincy and the activities which it organises. Afterwards Mr Oliver Mallia delivered a short talk about the services offered by the University Sports Complex. Another talk ensued regarding the Academic Programmes Quality & Resources Unit, delivered by Mr Colin Borg, followed by Mr Luigi Pellegrini, who gave a detailed account of the responsibility of the Scheduling Office. Lastly Ms Lorleen Farrugia gave a brief talk regarding the Counselling Services.

On the third day, Ms Marlene Bezzina delivered a talk regarding the Registry Office, followed by Mr Albert Debono who delivered a presentation on the Student Advisory Services. The Deputy Director of Library Services, Ms Joanna Felice gave a brief introduction of the Library and Ms Josianne Vella delivered a presentation of the online services provided by the Library, followed by a tour. Subsequently, Mr Noel Caruana delivered a detailed power-point presentation on The Staff Collective Agreement and Ing Elisa Vella gave a brief talk on the Office of the Registrar. Mr James Cilia conducted an IT Services Session at the IT Services Labs, where he demonstrated the online and technical services provided by IT Services.

Throughout the whole programme, the participants were encouraged to actively participate and interact with the speakers for further discussions and clarifications. Furthermore, a session was set aside for the participants to provide their general feedback regarding the course by means of an evaluation form. This feedback session was scheduled as the final session, in which a quiz took place. The participants who attended at least eight hours of the programme were presented with a certificate of attendance.
