Basic Life Support & Automated External Defibrillator

The Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) course teaches essential life-saving skills and the use of the AED. This course also teaches delegates how to perform effective CPR – a vital part of life-saving when a cardiac arrest has occurred. This course will ensure that participants have the confidence to use defibrillators to save lives. No prior first aid knowledge is needed to attend this course.  

 

Trainers: Qualified and experienced trainers from Saint John Ambulance
Target Audience: All members of staff at UM, up to 12 participants per course
Course duration: 4 hours 

By the end of this training the participants will be:
  • able to recognise life-threatening situations
  • able to offer vital assistance before more experienced help arrives
  • able to provide single-person CPR on an adult, child and baby
  • able to use the AED.

  • Communication and casualty care
  • Chest pains
  • Getting to know the AED
  • Operating the AED
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Treatment of an unresponsive casualty.

Assessment 

An ongoing assessment is done during the course.

Certification 
Successful candidates receive a St John Ambulance certificate, valid for one year. This international certificate is recognised by the local Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
