This course is designed for participants who wish to increase their fluency and confidence in presentation giving. The course will cover a number of important presentation skills, such as planning a clear and cohesive presentation; creating an effective power-point; being concise and getting to the point; using phrases which help direct the audience’s attention to the message; and dealing with follow-up questions. The course will be practical and hands-on, with time allocated in class to putting theory into practice, gaining in-class feedback, and participating in peer support. Over the duration of the course, participants will be guided to produce an 8-minute presentation which will be given as part of the assessment at the end of the programme.
Before the course, participants are required to create a 3-minute presentation, with accompanying power-point, on the topic of “What is your current role at the university?”. This presentation will be given on the first day as the participant’s introduction to the other participants.
