This web-page lists the activities, other than teaching activities, of the academic staff during the year. It includes attendance at conferences and professional meetings, organisation of conferences, courses, and participation in research projects.

January - March 2010 

The Department is heavily involved in the preparation for the 15th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference - Melecon 2010, to be held in Malta between April 25 - 28

January 2009 - December 2009

Dr. Carl J. Debono attended the 2009 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC 2009), Budapest, Hungary, 5 - 8 April 2009. He chaired the sessions NET1: Congestion and Admission Control and SVS5: Multimedia Networks 1.

Dr. Carl J. Debono attended the 92nd IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting, Venice, 25 - 26 April 2009.

Dr. Reuben Farrugia attended the 27th IEEE Picture Coding Symposium in Chicago, Illinois USA, May 6-8 2009. He presented the paper "Decoding H.264/AVC using Prior Information and Source Constraints".

Dr. Carl J. Debono attended the Fifth International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC 2009), Leipzig, Germany, 21 - 24 June 2009. He presented the paper "Exploiting Traffic Sampling Techniques for Mobile Peer Networking".

Prof. Paul Micallef attended the Interspeech 2009 Conference at Brighton, UK, between September 6 and September 10.

Dr. Carl J. Debono attended the Third International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Applications, Services and Technologies (NGMAST 2009, Cardiff, Wales, UK, 15 - 18th September 2009. He presented the paper "Minimizing Uplink Data in Wireless Free-Viewpoint Video Transmission Applications". He served as chair of the session "Session 3B: Coding and Propagation".

Dr. Carl J. Debono attended the 93rd IEEE Region 8 Meeting, Lisbon, 10 - 11 October 2009.

Dr. Reuben Farrugia attended the Idealist eChallenge Pre-Conference Brokerage - Face2Face meeting Call 6 in Istanbul, Turkey. 18th October 2009.

Dr. Carl J. Debono attended the First International Conference on Advances in P2P Systems (AP2PS 2009), Sliema, Malta, 13 - 15th October 2009. He presented the paper "Exploiting Traffic Sampling Techniques to Optimize Energy Efficiency in Mobile Peer Networks" which was awarded a "Best Paper Award". He served as chair of session AP2PS 4: Advances in Theoretical Foundations of P2P. 

The Department is participating in an EU 7th Framework Programme entitled High Intensity Radiated Field Synthetic Environment (HIRF SE). The programme is over a period of four years between 2009 and 2012. The local coordinator is Dr. Ing. Carl J. Debono.

 

January 2008 - December 2008

Attendance at the IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology - Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzgovina 16 - 19th December 2008.
Carl J. Debono presented the paper "The Implementation of an Adaptive Data Reduction Technique for Wireless Sensor Networks" and served as chair of session Communications Systems II.

Presented the IEEE short course entitled "IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS): Merging the Mobile and the Internet World" to the members of the IEEE and Chamber of Engineers, 16th May 2008. Carl J. Debono

Attendance at the 14th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference - Ajaccio, 5 - 7th May 2008.

Carl J. Debono presented two papers "Location estimation of an intruder in Wireless adhoc networks"  and "Robust transmission of H.264/AVC sequences using List decoding and Source Constraints" and served as chair of session TPC6-2 Image and Signal Processing.

Paul Micallef presented a paper "A non linear Feature extraction method for Phoneme Recognition" 

Presented the IEEE short course entitled "Wireless Sensor Networks and Applications" to the members of the IEEE and Chamber of Engineers, 2nd May 2008. Carl J. Debono
