The Department of Computer Science at the University of Malta

The University of Malta is the highest teaching institution in Malta with 11,500 registered students. It is publicly funded and dates back 400 years, being one of the oldest universities in the Mediterranean. 

The Department of Computer Science has two research foci:

  • System dependability: dealing with correctness of systems
  • Systems research: dealing with their development

The department has a strong track record in runtime monitoring with a number of publications in the area, a set of tools, and a number of industrial case studies.






Since inception in 2002 Ixaris has aimed to make the flow of money as fast and as flexible as the flow of information on the Internet. To achieve this Ixaris develops and operates payment services – through appropriate innovations in technology and business models – that orchestrate global inflows and outflows of funds through the established ubiquitous payment networks including UATP, Visa, MasterCard and SWIFT. Ixaris’ services are used by consumers, small businesses and corporates either through a self-service web-based channel or in the form of customised white-label payment applications. Ixaris payment services are provided through three brands: EntroPay, Ixaris Solutions and Ixaris Technologies.


Ixaris has excellent technical competence with over 50 software engineers in our R&D capability in Malta that specializing in a range of financial services grade technologies.  Ixaris engineers have designed, built and supported complex mission-critical and secure transactional systems over the past 10 years for both external blue chip clients within the banking industry as well as the technology behind all of Ixaris’ offerings.
