Maltese Language Software Services (MLSS) -  October 2012

MLSS is a web-site hosting free software services which operate on Maltese. In collaboration with the Maltese Language Resource Server (MLRS), we bring to you a set of hand-crafted tools which can be used both online as well as embedded in other programs.

The web-site contains a graphical user interface where the user can enter text and the level of tagging that s/he wish to apply to the text. The tools which are available include:

    - Paragraph Splitter (language independent)
    - Sentence Splitter
    - Tokeniser
    - Part of Speech Tagger

Each of the above tools can also be integrated into other applications through the use of a web service (more information is given on the site).

Webpage Design via Spoken Dialogue

The paper "Webpage Design via Spoken Dialogue" 4th Workshop in Information and Communication Technology" was presented by Mr. Michael Rosner and Mr. Andrew Attard at the 4th Workshop in Information and Communication Technology organized by the Faculty of ICT within the University of Malta.

The objectives of WICT 2012 were to showcase the research that is being done at the Faculty, promote inter-departmental collaboration and serve as a further inspiration to both under-graduate and post graduate students.

Language White Paper for Maltese

A key part of the strategy for developing Multilingual Language Technology is to assess the status of every language in the consortium. A Language White Paper series “Languages in the European Information Society” has been commissioned and each paper reports on the state of each European language with respect to Language Technology and explains urgent needs and current opportunities. The series covers all official European languages.

A first version of the META-NET white paper for Maltese was released at the end of July 2011 and can be now downloaded for free from the META-NET website.

Both the English and Maltese versions of the META flyer are available for download [PDF].
