| DESCRIPTION | The study-unit intends to explore emerging technologies and techniques within the IT field. The state of the art in various research areas will be assessed, including cloud computing, distributed computing, data and information processing, web oriented computing, mobile and smart devices, programming techniques, bioinformatics, HCI, and others. Course content may vary depending on current trends in IT. Academic Journals will be used to support learning. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to give the student the opportunity to explore newly emerging and cutting edge technologies. The state of the art in various areas will be explored through a theoretical and practical approach. Following academic research, students will be able to identify relevant techniques for use in current and future projects. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify important characteristics of emerging technologies together with their applicability to different areas in software development; - Identify various industries affected by new developments in IT. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Select and use state of the art and emerging technologies to develop applications and prototypes; - Use the appropriate tools supporting new technology for development of software and its deployment on a specific computer platform.
