The tenth annual edition of the Malta-Commonwealth Third Country Training Programme on the Management of Coastal Recreational Resources was held in Malta between 21 and 31 May 2013. This short intensive training programme was organized by the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics (ICoD), sponsored by the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation of the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Malta Cooperation Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The aim of this series of annual training events was the dissemination of specialized knowledge on the three main themes of beach management and conservation, niche tourism, and yachting activities, in support of the sustainable management of coastal leisure and recreational resources. The 2013 edition of the programme consisted of a combination of lectures and case studies delivered by local and foreign faculty, together with site visits and fieldwork highlighting various aspects of coastal recreation.

The training programme targeted professionals holding senior or middle management positions within tourism ministries and environment or planning authorities of Commonwealth countries. This edition of the programme was attended by 10 participants from the following countries: the Bahamas, Cameroon, Malaysia, Mauritius, Montserrat, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and the Seychelles. Through the sharing of their work experiences at the national level, participants were provided with a forum for discussion and consultation which allowed for a significant level of skill transfer between the course faculty and the participants, and among the participants themselves.
