This seminar gave the 56 participants an overview that it is not only physical factors that can be the major cause for sport injuries, but  psychological factors such as stress also play an important role. This lecture looked into the psychological effects of an injury on the athlete and useful techniques that may help to prepare the athlete for a return to competition.

Power and Empowering Athletes: A Coach’s Strength or Weakness?

The 4th IPES CPD Seminar  entitled “Power and Empowering Athletes: A Coach’s Strength or Weakness?” delivered by Ms Isabelle Zarb, who is a swimming coach and has a Masters Degree in Coaching from Loughborough University had a good attendance of 29 participants.  The session encouraged coaches present to reflect on their practice and what they think makes a 'good coach'. The concept of shared leadership and a more athlete-centred approach to coaching was questioned as to whether it is appealing to all stake-holders as opposed to a more traditional 'command and control' style of coaching
