DESCRIPTION This study-unit will take the form of lectures/tutorials revolving around professional development of sports personnel and the development of personal professional development portfolios. These lectures/tutorials will delve into the analysis of field experience and will thus run parallel to field placements. Students will learn how to write reflectively about aspects of their professional development as sports personnel and collect artefacts which will provide evidence of the skills they have acquired.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit helps students with the building of a professional development portfolio. This is done through the analysis of professional practice and the short-term and long-term goal identification of ongoing professional development needs.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Question professional assumptions and belief;
- Contstruct practical knowledge emerging from field experience;
- Review their professional development progress.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Compile a personal portfolio that reflects their career path as a professional;
- Reflect and analyse professional practice;
- Recognise strengths and weaknesses and reflect on ways to improve.
