DESCRIPTION The dissertation will generally be an open-ended problem in one of the various fields related to sustainable energy. The outline of the project programme can be defined as follows:

Research proposal and evaluation of proposal.

Subject Area review.

Analysis of the problem - design work, experimentation, simulation analysis, etc. (depending on the type of the problem investigated and the research area).

Writing up of dissertation together with preparation of any additional submission requirements.

Defense of the dissertation as appropriate.

The dissertation should demonstrate the ability of the student in comprehending and investigating the project research problem and the student's ability in applying the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of the dissertation is to offer the student the opportunity of applying the diverse knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course taught study-units and to specialize in a particular area of renewable energy or energy efficiency.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

presented with a research problem analyze it from various angles, design any experiments that need to be performed to solve the problem and do all necessary ground work. S/he would also be able to carry out the necessary experiments and summarize the results in a proper format.

Moreover the student will have become an expert on a particular area of sustainable energy.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

apply analytical and critical evaluation skills of published literature;

design experiments and perform them;

have the necessary skills for the successful writing reports and oral presentations;

be an expert on a particular area of the field.

Main Text/s and any supplementary readings:

This is a dissertation and the student is expected to undertake a detailed literature survey, depending of the title of the disseration. Various books, reports and conference/journal papers will be used.
