Videoconferencing allows participants to be virtually present for an event even if located in a geographically distant location from where the event is actually held. IT Services supports the following:

Room-Based Videoconferencing

Videoconferencing sessions organised by the University of Malta are held in dedicated learning spaces (as listed below) equipped with high quality videoconferencing facilities.
Facilities include: Cisco codecs, cameras, microphones, speakers, data projection facilities, visualisers, etc.

TR 107 Videoconferencing

Desktop-Based Videoconferencing

This involves the use of personal computer systems equipped with a webcam, a headset, a microphone and videoconferencing software. Desktop videoconferencing is particularly useful when remote participants do not have access to dedicated videoconferencing equipment.

Staff members are encouraged to contact IT Services to make use of desktop-based videoconferencing.

IT Services supports:

Point-to-point videoconferences i.e. connectivity between two sites. The side of the videoconference taking place locally at the University of Malta is called the near end and the other side of the call is referred to as the far end.

Multipoint videoconferences i.e. connectivity involving more than two sites. The University of Malta, through the Multipoint Conferencing Unit (MCU), is able to host videoconferences that can connect up to twelve geographically distant sites.

Kindly note that booking requests are to be submitted using relevant forms available on the Scheduling office webpages. Once Scheduling office inform requestors that a Provisional booking has been received, the Videoconferencing booking form may be completed.
Charges may also apply. More information about bookings and charges is available.
