TFA: Going abroad?

03 Apr 2019

Will you be away from home during Easter Recess? If so, remember that you may need the Two-Factor Authentication (TFA) code to access University email, eSIMS, VLE etc.

Do you have a smartphone and are still receiving the TFA code by SMS? If so, we strongly recommend that you install the authenticator app on your smartphone. This generates the TFA code even when your smartphone is not connected to the Internet or there is no mobile coverage. The authenticator app can be set up on Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad), Windows and Blackberry mobile devices.

If you cannot obtain the verification code from your primary phone and your backup phone/s, you will need to make use of backup verification codes. It is therefore important that you print a list of backup codes and keep this somewhere safe but convenient, such as in your wallet. Each backup code can only be used once. You will be able to generate more backup codes from the 'Manage Account' screen.

To set up the smartphone authenticator application or print your backup verification codes:
Contact IT Services Helpdesk if you require assistance with installing the smartphone authenticator application or to print the backup codes.
