Update: The deadline for selecting a new UM email address has passed. Students who have not yet selected their new UM email address are requested to do so at their earliest.

IT Services will be implementing an integrated system offering enhanced email capabilities, calendaring, and collaboration tools. This will result in an improved email interface that will integrate seamlessly with the calendaring and other collaboration tools. The system will also provide staff and students with a University calendar to keep track of their University-related activities, the possibility of inviting others to events, and the sharing of calendars. The collaboration tools, such as document sharing and co-authoring, will allow staff and students to collaborate more effectively by sharing files and working on documents together, while also providing the opportunity to store documents online that can be accessed from anywhere. Instant text messaging as well as audio and video conferencing will also be available.

The system will be deployed for students at the beginning of academic year 2013/14. As part of this process, all University students will be granted a more personalised email address. All current students, including those who are in their final year, and those who had already chosen an alumni email address (, are required to select their new University email address.

  • Students are required to select their new email address online by 14 June. The process should take a few minutes.
  • During the summer recess, IT Services will notify students when their new email address becomes active. Until then, students should continue using their current University email address.
  • Students’ existing University email address will remain functional after the new email address becomes active. All messages sent to the current student/alumni email addresses will be automatically delivered to the new University email address.
  • It will not be possible to change the new email address once it has been selected. The email address will remain the same after graduation.

Currently, students are allocated an email address with this format:

Name: John Borg
Email Address:

The new email address will have this format:

Name: John Borg
Email Address:

where XX is a two digit number that is automatically allocated to each student and cannot be changed.

Following the deployment of the email, calendaring and collaboration tools for students, the system will be gradually deployed for staff during academic year 2013/14. Staff email addresses will NOT change.

More information will be available in the near future.
