As you prepare your study-unit areas, we encourage you to refer to the Minimum Standards webpage recommending the typical content that should be included in any study-unit area in the VLE.

VLE Guides
VLE user guides, including quick reference guides to get started with the VLE, are available.

We also offer one-on-one consultations for staff who would like to discuss possible enhancements to their study-units using features of the VLE and other learning technologies.

What’s New in the VLE
The VLE has been upgraded to Moodle 3.5. This upgrade features a new theme that provides better navigation within study-unit areas, and creates more screen space for learning resources.

The resources and activities are similar to the previous VLE, however, the Moodle 3.5 upgrade introduces new features, bug fixes and enhancements that will improve the VLE user experience. Some enhancements include:
  • an improved messaging and notification system
  • a simplified way to make study-unit areas visible to students
  • instant audio and video recordings embedded with learning materials
  • a new Interactive Content (H5P) activity for creating interactive videos, quizzes, etc
  • on screen interactive tours for the new VLE interface.
More information about the new features and enhancements is available.

Furthermore, IT Services is extending the following pilot projects for all UM academics:

  • ePortfolio (Mahara)
  • BigBlueButton (Virtual classroom integrated within the VLE)

For more information about these services please contact IT Services.
