We would also like to remind you about the start of semester checklist.

Workshop & Guides
IT Services will be running a workshop for academic staff who would like to brush up on VLE beginners’ skills, or who would like to improve the design of their study-unit areas in the VLE. During this workshop, participants will work on their own study-unit areas with the guidance of IT Specialists.

IT Services will also be organising a workshop for academic staff who want to use the University Plagiarism Detection software (Turnitin). Training consists of a single hands-on workshop (3.5hrs) covering setting up, document submission and interpretation of the originality report.

More information about workshops and user guides is available.

We also offer one-on-one consultations for staff who would like to discuss possible enhancements to their study-units using features of the VLE and other learning technologies.

Attn. Academic Staff: End of Year VLE Updates

01 Aug 2017

Below are updates about the latest developments related to the VLE.

VLE Areas for 2017/18

IT Services has successfully upgraded the UM VLE to Moodle 3.1.6. This upgrade included bug fixes and enhancements that will improve the VLE user experience.

The study-units for academic year 2017/18 will be available early in September. We shall send a notification to all lecturing staff when they are available for use.

If you are working on a new study-unit, we encourage you to make use of your Sandbox Area in the UM VLE. The Sandbox Area is used for the preparation of course material and exploring of features of the VLE. The material can be copied from the sandbox area to a study-unit area via the VLE Copy Tool.

What is happening to 2016/17 study-unit areas?

The 2016/17 study-unit areas will remain accessible to tutors and students for revision purposes. In December, these study-unit areas will be set as archived. More information about the archiving policy is available online.

Do tutors need to repopulate their 2017/18 study-units from scratch in September?

No. Tutors can copy the material from 2016/17 study-unit areas (or from other past VLE areas) to the 2017/18 study-unit areas using the VLE Copy Tool. This online tool copies all the files, resources and activities that you have set up for students, except for any submissions made by students, such as assignments, forum posts, etc.

VLE Training & Support

Early in September, IT Services will be running a workshop for staff who would like to brush up on VLE beginners’ skills, or who would like to improve the design of their study-unit areas in the VLE. More information about the VLE workshops and VLE user guides is available online.

IT Services also offers one-on-one consultations for staff who would like to discuss possible enhancements to their study-units using features of the VLE and other learning technologies.
