Deprecation of Google Drive for Mac/PC

01 Dec 2017

Google has announced that Google Drive for Mac/PC will no longer be supported starting 11 Dec 2017, and will then be shut down completely on 12 May 2018. Users using Google Drive for Mac/PC most likely have received notifications advising them about the software's deprecation.

Hence, it is recommended that users switch to Drive File Stream (for GSuite Google accounts only) and/or Backup and Sync (available both for GSuite and Personal Google accounts) as a replacement for this tool.

Drive File Stream:

Drive File Stream allows you to access Drive files on demand from your PC (as a network drive) without having to download the files on your PC. It also supports Team Drives.

Backup and Sync:

Backup and Sync is similar to Google Drive for Mac/PC in that it downloads your Google Drive files on your computer (Sync), but adds simple Backup functionality to allow you to back up files from your PC onto Google Drive.
