IBM SPSS

The University has a site licence for IBM SPSS software. The licence covers use of IBM SPSS for academic purposes. The software is available only for University staff and students.

SPSS Statistics 27 is available for purchase  from IT Services. 

The current IBM SPSS version installed on the IT Services workstations is IBM SPSS Statistics 27 and includes the following modules: Tables (Original), Advanced Statistics, Regression Models (Professional Statistics), Custom Tables, Trends, Categories, Conjoint and Exact Tests. Manuals  can be accessed online.

IBM SPSS Statistics 27 for Windows

  • Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit version)
  • Memory: 4GB RAM or more recommended
  • Minimum free drive space: 4GB
  • For connecting with IBM SPSS Statistics Server, a network adapter running the TCP/IP network protocol.


IBM SPSS Statistics 27 for Mac

  • Operating System: Apple® Mac OS X High Sierra 10.13 (64-bit version), Mojave 10.14 (64-bit version) or Catalina 10.15 (64-bit version)
  • Memory: 4GB RAM or more recommended
  • Minimum free drive space: 4GB
  • For connecting with IBM SPSS Statistics Server, a network adapter running the TCP/IP network protocol.

A charge is levied for every IBM SPSS installation or licence code renewal.

The above charges cover IBM SPSS upgrades released during the licence period. Upgrades are normally made available during the summer recess. A notification will be displayed in the IT Services News & Events when an upgrade is released. Upgrades may only be provided for licences having 3 or more months left before expiry.  

Due to the COVID-19 situation, a free of charge arrangement is being offered to students and staff allowing use of IBM SPSS on their personal computers. 

The following new/renewal options are available for IBM SPSS. For urgent requests contact IT Service Desk.

  • Free of charge temporary arrangement (during COVID-19 situation) - This licence requires VPN to be connected while using IBM SPSS and does not work offline.

    Setting up open access IBM SPSS for home use.  


  • Personal online payment – This license can be used offline once activated. Staff and students can pay online  using any accepted credit/debit card. Academic Work Resource Fund debit cards are also accepted. IBM SPSS can be activated using the unique licence key that is sent by email within one working day following the online payment.

  • Journal transfer payment – This license can be used offline once activated. Departments are requested to send a completed Journal Request Form to IT Services Reception Desk to order IBM SPSS. Following clearance of journal transfer, staff will be required to sign the IBM SPSS academic licence terms and conditions
