Due to the present COVID-19 situation, laptop loan services are currently not available. If you have any issues, please contact us.

IT Services has a number of laptops available for short-term loans for University-related work. Currently the laptop loaning service is available only to University staff with a UM IT account. 

There is no charge for this service, although sanctions may be imposed for overdue laptops, damages or non-returned items.

The laptop loan service is meant to provide staff with a substitute unit when their computer is unavailable such as when this is being repaired. Laptops cannot be loaned for extended periods (e.g. for a semester).

The laptops have the following software installed:

  •   Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  •   Firefox, Internet Explorer & Chrome
  •   Adobe Acrobat Reader

Any additional software installed by the borrower must be legal and licensed. The laptops are being provided for University-related work otherwise there will be a breach of the academic licensing terms of the software installed in laptops.

All laptops support wireless connections.

Laptops are issued in a bag containing a power lead and charger.


Loan Procedure

The laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis for short periods. Reservations should be made by completing the laptop booking request form. IT Services will send an email confirming the availability of laptop and the date when the laptop can be picked up. The borrower is responsible for the laptop during the loan period.

Borrowers are required to return the laptops to IT Services Desk on the agreed date so that these can be prepared for the next borrowers. Returned laptops will be checked for any damages. Borrowers must ensure that they have removed all data from the laptop before they return this to IT Services.

Laptops are booked through the Self-Service Portal.
