Dr. Alfred Quintano joined the Department of Tourism Studies as a full-time lecturer in October 2007 having been a regular visiting lecturer to the Tourism Studies Unit and to the executive MBA programme of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy for a number of years before that. His main areas of lecturing than were Transportation Management and Globalisation. As a full time lecturer, his main teaching areas since he joined the Department are Tourism Business, Tourism Management, Transportation Management, Current Issues and Tourism Policy & Planning.


Dr. Quintano came to academia with a track record of achievement in top executive positions in the travel and tourism industries. He started his airline career with Scandinavian Airlines in Norway but joined Air Malta’s pioneering team in 1976 where he set up and managed its Charter Division and its Hospitality Division entrusted with the management of three major hotels. His last position at Air Malta was as Executive Assistant to the Chairman.

For a number of years Dr. Quintano was a director of the National Tourism Organisation (now MTA) and its acting Chairman for a two year period. He has held several other directorships in tourism related enterprises such as chairman of the Cruise Marketing Board and company secretary of a leading casino as also regional director of a global hospitality chain.


Dr. Quintano’s main research interests include performance measurement and management with particular reference to the Balanced Scorecard as also marketing and sales and revenue management in the Hospitality Industry on which he has published papers. Dr. Quintano achieved his PhD from the University of Portsmouth.
