Marie has over 25 years’ experience in the service industry, mainly in Tourism and Management Training. She is an accredited trainer and verifier for the Institute of Leadership and Management (UK), the management arm of the City and Guilds of London Institute. She was responsible for the research project entitled 'Enabling Framework for Telework' which was commissioned by the Employment and Training Corporation as part of the National Framework for the Lisbon Agenda. She is also a member of the Institute of Management in Malta.

Marie graduated from the University of Malta in 2000 in Contemporary Mediterranean Studies and went on to read for a Master’s in Business Administration in General and Strategic Management. She was awarded a Malta Government Scholarship to read for a Ph.D. in Anthropology of Tourism at the London Metropolitan University. Her research focused on the British Seniors (50+) Market and their links with Malta.

Her main research interests are Education Tourism, Heritage Interpretation, Cultural Commoditisation, Entrepreneurship in the Tourism sector and Social, Political and Cultural Capitals. Her non-academic interests are in Melitensia, more specifically the Colonial period in Malta, Dowsing and Mediterranean and Celtic Folklore remedies and rituals.
