Dr. John Ebejer is an architect, urban planner and tourism consultant with over twenty two years experience in both the public and private sector. He was involved in numerous planning projects including the Tourism Master Plan(1990), the Structure Plan for the Maltese Islands (1992), various local plans, action plans and development briefs.

He was consultant to the Malta Tourism Authority on tourism product development between 2000 and 2008. He coordinated numerous initiatives and projects with the more important projects being the beach replenishment project at St. George’s Bay and six countryside walks for Malta and Gozo.

Also for the MTA, he identified project proposals and coordinated the submission of the project application for European Regional Development Funds. The application was for three projects, namely National Aquarium at Qawra, Pembroke Garden and the Garigue Heritage Park and the upgrading of a promenade at St. Paul’s Bay. Similarly, for the Grand Habour Regeneration Corporation, Dr. Ebejer coordinated the application for ERDF funds for a military history museum and a ramparts walk at Fort St. Elmo and Carafa Enceinte. Both applications were successful.

He was also active in architectural design work particularly at the concept stage where initial ideas were developed and translated into viable projects. The projects were diverse and included residential, commercial and tourist developments.

Acting as consultant to the relevant ministry, he drafted several pieces of legislation in the sectors of urban planning, environment, building regulations and professional warranting.

He was a member of the Development Control Commission (MEPA: 2002-2004); jury member for architectural design international competition for Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Heritage Park (2004); Chairman of the Building Industry Consultative Council (2008 -10) and Chairman of the Adjudicating Committee for ‘Monument f’ Gieh l-Ewropa’ (2011).

He graduated as an architect and civil engineer from the University of Malta in 1987 and subsequently obtained a Masters in Town and Regional Planning from the Sheffield University (1992). He also achieved his doctorate from the School of Architecture and the Built Environment of the University of Westminster.
