Nadia Theuma holds degrees in Anthropology and Tourism Studies. She has been a member of staff at the University of Malta for more than 14 years with teaching, administrative and research experiences at the Department of Management within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy (FEMA). She has been instrumental in developing the Faculty’s research methodology programme and has taught research methodology courses to both the post-graduate and undergraduate cohorts within the Faculty. Dr Theuma has also supervised post-graduate and undergraduate dissertations related to tourism studies and tourism management issues both locally and in the UK. She has conducted seminars and given lectures in Malta, UK, Finland, New Orleans and Romania. In 2002, she completed her Ph.D. in Tourism and was chosen by the Faculty to assist in the coordination of the Tourism Studies programme that was launched within the FEMA Faculty. The Faculty decided in 2008 to upgrade the Tourism Studies programme to the status of a Department and Dr Theuma was appointed as Head of Department of Tourism Studies. Dr Theuma has over the years built an international and local network of institutional and business contacts, such as with Strathclyde University, University of Canterbury and various Tourism Schools in Europe. She has held consultancy posts with the Ministries of Tourism, Malta Tourism Authority, Heritage Malta, Malta Crafts Council and the Ministry for Resources and Competitiveness and Communications. She was a Board Director of the Malta Tourism Authority where she was influential in the Ministry developing a cultural tourism policy.  She has also conducted research in and partnered various EU funded projects for more than 10 years.

Dr Theuma’s research interests include: Cultural Heritage, Community Development, Maltese Food and Cultural Products.
