On Tuesday 11 December 2018, the Faculty of Laws commemorated its Foundation Day at the ICT Auditorium, Faculty of ICT, University of Malta, Msida.
After Professor Kevin Aquilina, Dean of the Faculty of Laws, welcomed participants, he invited Pro-Rector Professor Godfrey Baldacchino to introduce the event and address the audience.
Judge Professor David J. Attard, Chancellor of the University of Malta and Director of the International Maritime Law Institute, presented to the Dean a copy of the three volume edited publication which Professor Attard published with Oxford University Press. The three volume publication entitled The IMLI Treatise on Global Ocean Governance was donated to the Faculty of Laws and Theology Library.
Professor John Mamo was announced as the Winner of the Faculty of Laws Academic Excellence Award. Professor Raymond Mangion delivered an oration on the contribution to academia made by Professor John Mamo. Professor Mamo addressed the audience.

Winners for the Professor David J. Attard Best Doctor of Laws Dissertation Award conferred by Dr David Fabri, Head of Commercial Law Department, Faculty of Laws, University of Malta, upon Mr Shaun James Borg, 'Digital Privacy and Data Protection in the EU: The Proposed EU Regulation on Privacy and Electronic Communications' and by Dr David Zammit, Head of Department of Civil Law, upon Mr Sean Paul Micallef, 'An Analysis of the Legal Implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive in Malta'.
Winner of the GM Corporate & Fiduciary Services Limited Prize for Best Dissertation in Financial Services Law 'Recent International Transfer Pricing Developments and their Impact on Malta' conferred by Ms Despoina Xynou upon Ms Roseanne Bonello.
Winner of the Consumer’s Association Prize for the best Term Paper entitled 'Selected Issues of the Office of the Financial Arbiter - An Analysis' conferred by Ing. Francis Farrugia upon Ms Rachael Aquilina.
Winner of the Best LL.B.(Hons) Student in European Comparative Law conferred by Dr Ivan Sammut, Head of the Department of European and Comparative Law, Faculty of Laws, University of Malta, upon Ms Faye Barry for the highest mark achieved in study-unit ECL 2001 European Comparative Law.
Winner of the Malta Maritime Forum Annual Award for the best Dissertation on a shipping/maritime law-related subject entitled 'An Analysis of the Extent of Liability of the Maltese Pilot under Maltese law' conferred by Dr Ann Fenech upon Ms Corinne Gail Pace.

GMX (Law Firm) Prize for Best Student in Masters of Advocacy 1st Year – Ms Luisa Cassar Pullicino
