INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE
December 2015 – Human Rights Day
HUMAN RIGHTS PROGRAMME
UNIVERSITY OF MALTA

The Human Rights Programme of the University of Malta is organising a Conference entitled 'The Role of Human Rights Bodies in Promoting a Human Rights Culture'. The Conference will be held on Thursday 10 December 2015. The deadline for registration and booking is 7th December 2015 at midday. The Conference is going to be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel St Julians.

On 10 December of 2014, the Maltese government proposed the establishment of a Human Rights and Equality Commission (HREC) based on the Paris Principles. Following public consultation, the government decided to draft a Human Rights and Equality Commission Act, setting up a Human Rights Commission. The Bill was due to be proposed to Parliament in the summer of 2015, with the aim that this piece of legislation would be adopted by Parliament by the end of 2015.

This Conference will present a diverse and interdisciplinary set of studies of the role of National Human Rights Institutions (HNRIs) or 'Human Rights bodies' in promoting a human rights culture within a country.

Conference Fees:
