Retro-conversion Unit

Opening Hours

The mission of the Retrospective Conversion Unit is to guide scholars and students towards appropriate sources of information by converting card-catalogue records into machine-readable format. As a result, end-users no longer have to come to the Library in order to look up the traditional card catalogue but rather search the Library’s holdings remotely.

The key role of the Retro-Conversion Unit is to maximize access of material purchased by the University of Malta Library before 1992.   The range of material retro-converted includes the Social Sciences, Law, Art and Architecture, Language and Literature, and books in the Fine Arts Room.  Retro-conversion is an on-going process and is currently being expanded to include the sections pertaining to Philosophy, Theology, Religion, History, Science, Engineering, Melitensia and Reference works.

For material published before 1992, users must check the online catalogue first, and if item is not found they must check the card catalogue to confirm its availability.  If book record cannot be found on any of the catalogues, patrons are advised to contact the Library’s Help Desks.
