The PDF version of your dissertation should be submitted to the faculty as per instructions provided by them - either on a CD or via email.

The CD should contain:

  • One PDF file with all the chapters of your dissertation (including a signed authenticity form)
  • A separate document (printed or electronic) with the following details:
- Your full name
- Dissertation title
- Your personal email address (not the UM email)

Note: Do not include your personal email address or your ID card number on your dissertation file.

Full guidelines for the preparation of your Electronic Thesis / Dissertation (ETD) are available here

FAQs:

  1. How shall I name my PDF file?
  2. Why should I provide my personal email address?
  3. When is the deadline for submitting my ETD?
  4. How can I sign my authenticity form?
  5. I have additional material accompanying my dissertation. How can I submit extra files?

1. How shall I name my PDF file?

PDF files should be correctly named before submission. The name should be in the following code format:

[year][code][unique student number] (do not include square brackets)

e.g. 19DLIS001, where 19 is the year when you are submitting your dissertation (2019), DLIS is the course code (in this case Diploma in Library and Information Studies, and 001 your unique student number. Codes should be collected from the respective faculty secretary. No spaces or other text is to be included with the filename.

2. Why should I provide my personal email address?

Most dissertations (with the exception of PhD and grade A Masters) are uploaded in restricted access which means that only UM registered users will be able to access and download the full text. However, the title and abstract of all dissertations will be available in open access. Researchers who are not registered with the University of Malta and are interested in reading the full text of a dissertation may request access.

Since the copyright of the dissertation belongs to the author, the request button will automatically send an email to the author and s/he can decide whether or not to grant full access of his/her work. Please note that the author’s email address will be stored internally and will not be visible to the requester.

3. When is the deadline for submitting my ETD?

The deadline is stipulated by the faculty and will be communicated with you by the faculty.

4. How can I sign my authenticity form?

You may sign a printed form, scan it and insert it as an image in your document.

5. I have additional material accompanying my dissertation. How can I submit extra files?

See instructions for submitting accompanying material.
