Abstract: This paper talks about the influence of Islamic music on neighbouring countries. It has long been argued that the various intonations of scales of Arabic music have nothing in common with the music of Europe and those of ancient Greece. However, since the second great war and the discovery by the distinguished Arab scholar Louis Massignon in 1949 of some old "notated" Arab music there has been a marked change in our view on the question of Arabo- Berber influence in the Mediterranean basin.
