Abstract: The following is a summary of the management plan followed in Malta in the investigation of focal hepatic masses. This plan emphasises the use of preliminary non-invasive procedures such as laboratory investigations, ultrasonography and computerised tomographic scanning before selectively proceeding to more invasive techniques, which include angiography, liver biopsy and fine needle aspiration. The principles of this plan of management are illustrated by means of a case report of a Maltese patient with a large hepatic cavernous haemangioma
