Abstract: This short paper proposes a project which looks at a mobile application to be used in the dissemination and education for cultural heritage. The mobile application integrates with a virtual world reality, which aims to transport users beyond the physical reality to gain a better insight and knowledge of the cultural world they are facing. The project considers one specific scenario in the local Maltese context. However such an application finds its scope in a broader context and aims to be diffused and exploited in a wider ambit, spanning entire regions such as the Mediterranean region. The project's broad objectives tackle not only education in terms of lifelong learning perspectives, but also how to enhance the quality of service given within the tourism industry more specifically in the cultural heritage sector. The innovation of this project can in fact be extended to a transnational value, through the creation of seientific and technological networks making a direct contribution to a balanced economic development in the areas concerned.
