Abstract: Sir, I read with interest the paper with this title by Dr. R. I. S. Bayliss (24 September, p. 721). Dr. Bayliss mentions the value of the -anti-inflammatory and immuno-suppressant actions of the gluco-corticoids and the indications arising there-from. He makes no reference, however, to their direct action on the basic properties of contractiaity, irritability, and conductivity of the myocardial fibre, when one or 'more of these properties are adversely affected by disease.
