Abstract: As its grand and comprehensive title suggests, this book provides a theoretical and practical account of the past and present predicaments of small islands. The fate of these islands has been tied to their role as platforms for the needs of international capital. However much they try to exploit the powers and jurisdiction which they possess in order to attain self-reliant development, they might still be forced to play this role.
