Abstract: | This study provides an understanding of how the Performance Management System is working at Transport Malta - a Governmental Public Authority. Through this research, it is being determined how effective it is in assessing managerial performance and whether it is working appropriately in ensuring that managers perform to the expectations of top management. This exploratory study has used qualitative research methodology through the conduction of semi-structured interviews with Top and Senior Management from the various Directorates within the Authority. A phenomenological approach was used to analyse the data obtained and in reaching the study’s findings. Following the findings, discussion and conclusions, the author has provided a set of recommendations that the Human Resources Department, the TM Directorates and TM’s top management can utilise to address certain weaknesses viewed in the performance management system and strengthen its effectiveness based on actions that can contribute in improving the employees’ performance and motivation. |
