Citation: Micallef, O. (2018). Data analytics for planning and decision making in Maltese organisations : an analysis (Master’s dissertation).
Abstract: PURPOSE: The purpose of the study is to assess the attitude of financial decision makers within Maltese organisations towards data-driven decision making and Data Analytics (DA) for planning and decision making. This study also aims to evaluate the way in which financial decision makers within such organisations use processed data for strategic decision making and planning. Furthermore, this dissertation tries to categorise the level of DA used and identify potential improvements in such systems. DESIGN: Due to the nature of the study, a qualitative approach was adopted. Following an analysis of the current literature, nineteen semi-structured interviews were conducted. Seventeen interviews were conducted with local financial decision makers and IT officials, whilst two were conducted with industry advisors. Furthermore, an unstructured interview was carried out with an industry advisor to validate the findings.
