Abstract: The year 1952 has seen considerable advances in our knowledge of the prehistory of the Maltese islands, due to the inception, in October, 1952, of the Archaeological Survey. A complete re-organisation of the prehistoric material has been carried out, which has made possible a re-assessment and reinterpretation of it in the light of recent archaeological work abroad. For the first time a thorough study of the pottery has been made, and a number of ceramic phases worked out, which can be linked at several points with the development in neighboring lands, but chiefly with Sicily. Also the first direct link with the lands of the Eastern Mediterranean has been established by the finding of a piece of imported Mycenean pottery among prehistoric material from Borg in-Nadur.
