Abstract: The introduction of the Euro in the Eurozone was originally perceived as a concept essential for the future of Europe that would allow the creation of one single, flourishing economic system. Nonetheless, the Eurozone Crisis has led many to doubt its proclaimed benefits. The European Union's inability to enforce the Maastricht criteria has led to devastating effects on many European financial systems leaving Europe's future uncertain. This study aims to investigate the ongoing effects and implications of the eurozone crisis on the economy through analyzing three different possible scenarios that may eventually unfold; a Greek exit, a German exit and a Greek default. In order to conduct a thorough analysis, three past crises were analyzed to better understand the potential events that may take effect during a crisis. Similar patterns between the three crises and the eurozone crisis were identified, allowing the author to make better predictions of possible future developments in the eurozone. Through this investigation the author came to discover that a clean cut solution is not an option. Any of the three scenarios would pose negative repercussions on the global economy, and the road to economic growth is long and arduous.
