Abstract: In the February-May 1996 issue of VlGILO news was given that the Council of Din I-Art Helwa had decided to sponsor the 1996 excavations at Tas-Silg by the Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Malta. We are happy to report that the first season of excavations on this site has been successfully completed. with very satisfactory and encouraging results. Previously, the university department responsible for the training of archaeologists had undertaken such field activity in conjunction with other institutions. For the first eight years of its existence (1987-1994) it had conducted regular summer campaigns of excavations at the Xaghra Stone Circle in conjunction with the Universities of Bristol and Cambridge and Malta's Museums Department. This meant that the financial burden for those excavations was borne mainly by the Museums Department and various sponsors, mostly from Britain. such as the British Academy.
