John Dewey in relation to the PSD : assumptions, tensions and conflicts

Abstract

The study aims to explain the relationship between the ideas of John Dewey and the Personal and Social Development teacher. John Dewey's main philosophical themes, policy documents [such as the National Minimum Curriculum (1999)] and other documents that make reference to PSD will be the main focus of this research. In order to enrich my philosophical inquiry, a focus group interview with three PSD teachers was conducted. The aim is to analyse whether there is a relation between John Dewey's work and their work. The implications, limitations and recommendations are presented in this dissertation.
