Title: Faculty of Laws Newsletter : November 2024 : issue 24 Abstract: A word from the Dean: Faculty of Laws Newsletter’s second anniversary! This newsletter was two years old last month, and I did not even notice! Time flies; two years ago I struggled with different formats, even investing in a subscription which I hoped would lead to a more professional product... it did not, which proves that our tools are only as good as the capabilities of the person operating them. All editions of this newsletter are available on OAR, not because they will contribute towards my – or any member of the Editorial Team’s – promotion prosepects, but because we believe that the newsletter serves a number of purposes; apart from serving as a link, a means how to keep in touch and as a source of information, it even serves as a record of how far our Faculty has come in recent years, of how hard we work, of how much we produce, of how active we are. We believe that the Faculty of Laws has a lot to be proud of, and we should not shy away from sharing this with anybody who looks us up. We also think that it is healthy to have a written record to look back upon, of our activities and achievements. Twenty-four issues later we can already start to do just that i.e. go through the older issues and recall with pride our activities.

Title: Faculty of Laws Newsletter : October 2024 : issue 23 Abstract: The Faculty Newsletter Editorial Board takes the opportunity to welcome you to a new academic year. As you can see from this edition of our newsletter, we were quite busy this summer (over and above the usual summer activity including script corrections, revisions of papers, resits, final classifications, processing of new student applications, etc.). In fact, the Faculty of Laws literally did not stop over summer, and the situation was made more challenging by the ongoing works which thankfully are now practically completed (less a few teething problems); in my opinion the half days did not help either, because expecting a person to do a full day’s work in half the time results in stress and inefficiency as people struggle to do as much as they can in the limited time. Yet, as always our trusty team faced and overcame every challenge, and we are all prepared for, and looking forward to, all that AY2024-2025 has in store. We hope that this year we will not only continue to fulfil our mission as educators and researchers, but that we will actually improve on past performance.

Title: Faculty of Laws Newsletter : August 2024 : issue 22 Abstract: Request from UM Valletta Campus Many of our colleague examiners pick up their packets of scripts from UM Valletta Campus (VC), and return them to the Faculty of Laws via VC as well. There is no problem at all with this, but the Faculty of Laws were asked to remind examiners of the importance that returned scripts are handed in, in sealed envelopes. Unfortunately this is not always the case and, in such cases VC will not assume responsibility and consequently actually refuses to accept the scripts e.g. if the examiner or their representative hands in the exam scripts in a plastic bag. On our part, we appreciate all the effort and sacrifice that goes into correcting literally hundreds of scripts, and the last thing we want to do is hear that an examiner was turned away when he / she tried to return the scripts to us via VC, but it is a question of confidentiality and ensuring the security of the documents being handed in. Therefore please make sure that said scripts are returned in sealed envelopes.
