Authors: Alvarez, Carlos Martinez
Abstract: The mime artist Carlos Martinez offers a DVD of his rendition "Human Rights" with audio commentary available for the whole show, which may be accompanied by subtitles in English, German, French or Spanish. Martinez offers eleven (11) pieces of mime as his vision of human rights, through a combination of 8atire and tragedy, which in his view results in hope for the future. Each piece of mime represents a particular human right or a combination of human rights, derived from the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The DVD also includes an interview with the artist himself, a bonus piece which is filmed at the end of the show, and a number of other bonus features. [excerpt]</summary>

Authors: Barros Geraldo, Pedro Heitor
Abstract: This paper aims to describe the asymmetric interactions between lawyers and lay people in courtrooms. The hearings are an interesting environment where we can observe these interactions between experts and lay people. The research is based on the 20 hearings of the "Juges de Proximite" in courtrooms in southern France counting over sixty hours of observation in five different courts. The "Juges de Proximite" were created in 2003. They are non-professional judges who have the law graduation. They treat small civil claims and the misdemeanors. The main goal is to provide a thick description of these interactions for analyze with the ethnomethodological point of view.. As a result, I could describe a reflexive activity between lawyers and lay people. In one hand, the lawyers explain the law in ordinary language while the lay people make a struggle to understand the legal assessments for practical purposes. This activity is possible due to the capacity of creating cognitive tools using contextual accounts. Finally, the court hearings work allows observing how the law is accomplished with the cognitive tools which are developed by the interactions of lawyers and lay people.</summary>

Authors: Bhuiyan, Jarid Hossain
Abstract: Right to liberty is a basic right of every individual. The State is under an obligation to ensure it. Article 32 of the Constitution of Bangladesh ensures the right to personal liberty. Besides, Article 33(1) has always been considered as essential and fundamental for protecting the right to personal liberty while upholding the rule of law. According to Article 33(1), the arrested person should not be detained in custody without being informed, as soon as possible, of the grounds of arrest and he should not be denied the right to consult and be defended by a legal practitioner of his choice. The arrested person should be produced before the nearest Magistrate within the period of twenty four hours of such arrest, excluding the time necessary for the journey from the place of arrest to the Court of the magistrate. In spite of this constitutional protection, the incidence of arbitrary arrest by the police frequently takes place. The paper shall in detail examine the constitutional provision regarding arrest and analyse the powers of the police relating to arrest. Then the paper will put forward some recommendations to protect the human rights of the arrested person.</summary>
