Abstract: Equity is often used interchangeably with equality, yet there are
subtle but important differences. Equity goes beyond equality.
While equality means everyone is given the same opportunity,
equity goes a step further. Equity aims for an equal outcome by giving
opportunities according to individual circumstances. To illustrate,
equality is giving everyone the same pair of shoes. Equity is giving
everyone a pair of shoes that fit. [excerpt]

Abstract: When lounging on a Maltese beach, admiring the azure
sea, you might not realise that the Mediterranean is
one of the most polluted seas in the world. It accumulates
marine plastics of every size and shape, which eventually
break down into smaller pieces forming microplastics,
defined as plastic fragments which are just visible to the
naked eye (ie shorter than 5mm in diameter). In fact, in
certain parts of the Mediterranean, fine particulate matter
exceeds 100 micrograms per cubic metre. This is much
higher than the global average of 39.6 micrograms per
cubic metre. [excerpt]

Abstract: Moving to a new country is
already hard enough – adapting
to unfamiliar surroundings, embracing
a different culture, and trying to build
a new life. However, for migrants,
the challenges don't end there.
They face additional hurdles, such
as finding employment, having their
qualifications recognised, and even
something as basic as opening a bank
account, all complicated by language
and cultural barriers. [excerpt]
