    <summary type="text">Title: An analysis of equality, legislation, attitudes and values in education : the case of Greece

Abstract: This paper analyses teachers’ attitudes, socio-educational values&#xD;
and educational legislation in Greece, using as starting-point the notion of&#xD;
equality. It seeks to investigate how teachers’ attitudes toward equality relate to&#xD;
the Greek educational legislation and to socio-educational values. The basic&#xD;
hypothesis to be tested is that there are various conflicts between teachers’&#xD;
attitudes, socio-educational values and educational legislation regarding&#xD;
equality. Teachers try to resolve tensions created within the educational&#xD;
legislation when meeting different pupils’ needs in class. This affects in turn the&#xD;
accommodation of socio-educational values into school practice. It is argued&#xD;
that investigating teachers’ attitudes within the context of socio-educational&#xD;
values and educational policy can: (i) help the state clarify the aims of education&#xD;
in its legislation; and (ii) help teachers in applying a critical-reflective&#xD;
approach on their work.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: The implications of Lebanese cultural complexities for education

Abstract: The numerous cultures that exist in Lebanon are in constant conflict.&#xD;
This paper tries to identify the extent to which multiculturalism influences the&#xD;
Lebanese educational system. The paper tries to develop possible solutions to the&#xD;
educational problems created by a multicultural Lebanese society by comparing&#xD;
and contrasting western liberal-secular educational ideologies. The solutions&#xD;
arise from an examination of: (i) the influence of Lebanon’s politico-religious&#xD;
history on the national cultural identity; (ii) the infrastructure of Lebanese schools&#xD;
and universities; (iii) some politico-religious events in Lebanese educational&#xD;
institutions; and (iv) the multilingual society of Lebanon which manifests itself&#xD;
in patterns of social and academic behaviour.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: Understanding student teachers' effectiveness through journals at an English language teaching department : a Turkish university case

Abstract: This paper focuses on a case study of twelve student teachers’&#xD;
experiences about ‘Teaching Practice’ through teaching journals in an English&#xD;
Language Teaching (ELT) department in a university in Turkey. Data were&#xD;
analysed qualitatively through eight thematic categories, namely, ‘teaching&#xD;
topic’, ‘teaching techniques’, ‘problems in teaching’, ‘dealing with problems’,&#xD;
‘successful parts in teaching’, ‘unsuccessful parts in teaching’, ‘changes in&#xD;
the plan’ and ‘possible future change in teaching’. ‘Timing’, ‘classroom&#xD;
management’, ‘giving instructions’ and ‘planning’ are identified as the&#xD;
problematic areas in teaching. The emergent data underline the importance of&#xD;
teacher knowledge, teaching skills and competencies focusing on a more effective&#xD;
school-faculty partnership and effective teacher education. The implications&#xD;
of the study’s findings are discussed at the end of the paper.</summary>
