Abstract: Previous evaluation of mouthwashes, have very largely concentrated on&#xD;
determinations on the anti-plaque activity (Axelsson, 1987), their&#xD;
ability to control gingivitis, (Clark et aI, 1987) and the effects of specific&#xD;
chemical agents used to reduce the bacterial count (Hogg, 1987). A&#xD;
pharmaceutical and microbiological analysis of 14 mouthwashes&#xD;
available in Malta were investigated, at St Luke's Hospital and the&#xD;
University of Malta.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: Determination of acetylator phenotype with respect to isoniazid in Malta

Abstract: The studies carried out involved isoniazid, an important&#xD;
chemotherapeutic agent in anti-tuberculous treatment. Two main aims&#xD;
were identified, and both were concerned with the existence of fast and&#xD;
slow acetylators (inactivators) of isoniazid. The first aim was the&#xD;
determination of the distribution ratio of fast and slow metabolisers in a&#xD;
sample of Maltese volunteers, this quite possibly being the first time any&#xD;
such attempt was made locally. A secondary design of the first aim was&#xD;
the possible correlation of factors, other than genetic ones, with the&#xD;
acetylator phenotype. The second aim was an attempt at reasserting&#xD;
certain genetic principles with regards to the isoniazid acetylator&#xD;
phenotype, in a Maltese context. These principles were established in&#xD;
1960 by Evans et al and stated that the isoniazid acetylator phenotype is&#xD;
determined by a single pair of genes located on an autosomal chromosome,&#xD;
with the gene for slow acetylation recessive to that for fast acetylation.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: Polarography in drug and pharmaceutical analysis

Abstract: Electroanalysis is the separation and determination of chemicals by&#xD;
electrolysis. Voltammetry is a term used to describe all electroanalytical&#xD;
techniques, which involve the application of an external potential on the&#xD;
system and utilize the current-potential relationship arising at a&#xD;
polarizable microelectrode to calculate the concentration of the&#xD;
electroactive species. When the working electrode is a mercury electrode,&#xD;
the technique is called polarography.&#xD;
The purpose of this work is to illustrate the applicability of these&#xD;
techniques, especially polarography in pharmacy. This is because the&#xD;
past decase has revealed a remarkable and renewed interest in the&#xD;
application of electroanalytical techniques to the analysis of drugs and&#xD;
pharmaceuticals.</summary>
