Abstract: Dan l-istudju huwa bbażat fuq it-traduzzjoni ta’ Bodas de Sangre miktub mid-drammaturgu Spanjol Federico García Lorca. Għażilt li nidħol għal din il-biċċa xogħol għaliex minn dejjem kien jolqotni l-mod kif jikteb u t-temi reali li jittratta García Lorca, infatti, ħafna minn xogħlijietu huma mera tas-soċjetà li kien jgħix fiha.
L-iskop ewlieni hu li tinħoloq verżjoni bil-Malti, sabiex tingħalaq it-triloġija tradotta bil-Malti tad-drammi ta’ García Lorca. Ittieħed f’kunsiderazzjoni wkoll iċ-ċans li ’l quddiem, din it-traduzzjoni tkun tista’ tintuża bħala skript sabiex tittella’ fuq il-palk Malti. Se jkunu qed jingħataw ukoll għadd ta’ noti fl-aħħar tat-Tielet Kapitlu fejn se jiġu spjegati ċerti raġunijiet, deċiżjonijiet u għażliet li ttieħdu. Dawn jistgħu jservu wkoll bħala linji gwida għal min jixtieq jifhem ċerti kunċetti aktar mill-qrib.
Naturalment, biex ix-xogħol prattiku jsir bl-aħjar mod, għandu jkun hemm ir-riċerka. Din it-teżi għandha l-għan li tixħet iktar dawl fuq il-qasam tat-traduzzjoni teatrali. Infatti, se jkunu qed jiġu mistħarrġa t-teoriji ewlenin dwar it-traduzzjoni tad-drama u l-poeżija kif ukoll xi punti meqjusa bħala problematiċi mit-teoristi fejn tidħol it-traduzzjoni għall-palk.
L-għan ta’ din it-traduzzjoni hu li jitwassal l-istess sens, bid-deskrizzjonijiet u d-dettalji kif kitibhom u ddeskrivihom Federico García Lorca nnifsu, imma f’lingwa differenti.

Abstract: This dissertation focuses on three language versions of Regulation (EC) No 2006/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 October 2004 on cooperation between national authorities responsible for the enforcement of consumer protection laws (the Regulation on consumer protection cooperation)1. The three languages are English, Maltese and French.
The analysis of the three languages leverages the Term Shuttle tool, which is a structured way how equivalent terms in each language are grouped and defined before the actual translation work on the source commences. This is followed by an in-depth analysis of the lexical, morphological, syntactical and semantical aspects of the selected texts, which lead to the comparing and contrasting of the linguistic elements relevant to the three languages.
The dissertation is divided into six chapters. The first chapter gives a brief overview on the concept of multilingualism in the EU, the definition of a “Regulation”, as well as the languages of the EU, EU documents and how one can access them. The second chapter explores the various subjects related to this dissertation and the views of theorists and linguists. The third chapter explains the methodology applied to compile the different terms and phrases from the Regulation and their analysis. The fourth chapter presents the term shuttle while the fifth chapter comprises the core study of this dissertation: the analysis. The final chapter discusses certain differences which came to light during the analysis as well as points which could be further studied.

Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to test the notion of explicitation, vis-à-vis the Explicitation Hypothesis established by Shoshana Blum-Kulka which is considered to be one of the translation universals in the field of translation studies. This will be done by analysing selected excerpts from Saint-Exupéry’s Le Petit Prince and its Maltese translations by Tusè Costa; Il-Prinċep iż-Żgħir and Toni Aquilina’s two versions under the title of Iċ-Ċkejken Prinċep. Vinay and Darbelnet defined the term explicitation as “the process of introducing information into the target language which is present only implicitly in the source language, but which can be derived from the context or the situation”1. One must take into account that explicitation was more considered from the point of view of procedure, prompting Blum-Kulka to come up with the Explicitation Hypothesis. She analysed why translators tend to be more explicit than the original authors. Additionally, explicitation is due to various factors which will be obviously analysed in this study, such as the lack of appropriate terminology in the Maltese language or the deliberate choice of the translator in question for various reasons. Moreoever, I was also motivated by the fact that the Explicitation Hypothesis has not yet been analysed in the context of translations into Maltese.

Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to provide a comparative analysis of Is-Salib tal-Fidda by Patri
Wistin Born and its English translation, The Silver Crucifix by Godwin Ellul. Having read the
Maltese version but not the English version of the novel, the target text is experienced from a
fresh perspective as a new reader experiences it, thus allowing for no bias within the analysis
of the translation.
Focus is mainly on investigating the emergence of the translator within the English version of
the novel, and as a result of the visibility (or invisibility) of the translator, discovering how
transparent this makes the translation.
Bearing in mind the history of Maltese novels, the prevalence of Maltese literature in
translation, and the social and historical context around the time of the novel, the two texts
are not analysed in a vacuum. Furthermore, a variety of translation theories are applied, with
focus on the invisibility of the translator, achieving equivalence, translating certain aspects
(for example, style and culture), and analysis of the main stylistic elements of both the source
text and target text. The views of multiple scholars are also looked at and applied to the
analysis.
The differences and similarities between the source and target texts are looked at, and a final
conclusion about Ellul‘s translation is drawn in the last chapter of the study.
