Authors: Rizzo Naudi, John
Abstract: Professor Rizzo Naudi provides a short description of what can be found in his book Brucellosis : The Malta Experience - A Celebration 1905 - 2005. He describes in some chronological order the progress made in the study of this worldwide disease of animals that also affects humans. Most of the important discoveries regarding this disease were made by English and Maltese investigators working in Malta during the nineteenth and twentieth century. In the words of Dr Kennedy one of the members of the Mediterranean Fever Commission, "The History of Malta Fever (Brucellosis) is practically the history of its study in the Mediterranean and more especially in Malta". This Book is an account of these important discoveries and the subsequent efforts to control and eradicate this disease in Malta, which are very interesting from a historical and social point of view.2006-01-01T00:00:00ZThe profession of Podiatry - The Staffordshire Malta linkhttps://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/435042019-05-25T01:48:48Z2006-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: The profession of Podiatry - The Staffordshire Malta link
Abstract: In July 2007 eight Maltese podiatry students visited Staffordshire to experience the practice of podiatry in all its forms in the UK setting. Thanks to the good will of South Staffordshire PCT, Salts Healthcare and the University itself these students had a day in a gait lab, visited an orthoses and surgical footwear manufacturer, and were present during foot surgery theatre sessions to observe "normal" podiatry clinics both in NHS and private practice.2006-01-01T00:00:00ZThe role of biomedical physics-engineering in the development of medical device education for the healthcare professionsCaruana, Carmel J.https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/435022019-05-25T01:49:01Z2006-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: The role of biomedical physics-engineering in the development of medical device education for the healthcare professions
Authors: Caruana, Carmel J.
Abstract: Biomedical physics-engineering involves the development of medical devices and their effective, safe and efficient application in the clinical milieu. Modern healthcare relies heavily on the twin pillars of pharmaceutical and medical device technology. Unfortunately, whilst pharmaceutical education has been given a lot of attention in healthcare professional curricular development, medical device education has been sorely lacking. Meanwhile, the array, variety and complexity of medical devices have been increasing rapidly with the swift advances in technology. On the other hand, as device education has not kept pace so have underutilization of devices and the number of instances of improper and unsafe use.2006-01-01T00:00:00Z
