Abstract: The overall purpose of this study is to identify the nursing&#xD;
management of pre-operative fasting in consideration&#xD;
individualised patient needs.&#xD;
The Research Question being:&#xD;
The nursing management of pre-operative fasting:&#xD;
routine procedure or individualised approach?&#xD;
The findings of the study are discussed by reviewing the data&#xD;
collected from the Nurses Structured Interview, the Anaesthetist&#xD;
Questionnaire and the Patient Interviews plus observations gathered &#xD;
from patient Care Plans. Prescription Charts, Fluid Balance Charts &#xD;
and Anaesthetic record of surgery. Following the review of the data '&#xD;
collected. comments from Anaesthetists,&#xD;
included and collated where possible.
