Abstract: The overall purpose of this study is to identify the nursing
management of pre-operative fasting in consideration
individualised patient needs.
The Research Question being:
The nursing management of pre-operative fasting:
routine procedure or individualised approach?
The findings of the study are discussed by reviewing the data
collected from the Nurses Structured Interview, the Anaesthetist
Questionnaire and the Patient Interviews plus observations gathered
from patient Care Plans. Prescription Charts, Fluid Balance Charts
and Anaesthetic record of surgery. Following the review of the data '
collected. comments from Anaesthetists,
included and collated where possible.
