    <summary type="text">Title: National and human security issues in irregular migration in the USA : the Cuban irregular migration crisis
Abstract: National Security and Human Security are two concepts of the larger field of Security that have been and currently remain at odds with each other. On one hand, National Security seeks to uphold the sovereignty of this synthetic idea of the ‘State’, while, on the other hand, Human Security seeks the recognition of the internationally accepted rights of the individual, in any situation, whether the State recognizes them or not. As one can imagine, based on this ongoing division within the field of security, such as issue as migration is subject to just as heated as debate. National Security would state that the protection of the sovereign nation from the effects from the movement of unknown persons is paramount over the rights of the individual. Human Security rejects this notion, arguing that the well-being of the human person should be the primary focus in all matters, whether the action be a legal matter or one of state sovereignty. While the division between these views of security usually results in one taking precedence over the other, the case of Cuban irregular migration to the United States is a unique case. The shared history between the island and the US, be it the Cuban War for Independence or the Bay of Pigs Invasion and subsequent Missile Crisis after, is one wrought with security issues stemming from the field of National Security. The migration crisis, however, spurred on by these events, resulted in a shift in focus from the protection of the state, to the care of the individual. US policy towards Cuba would come to develop a unique focus on Human Security out of a setting that was highly reliant upon the ideals of National Security. This dissertation hopes to use the case of US and Cuban policy development with between National Defense and Cuban Migration to the US to effectively demonstrate that both the principles of National Security and Human Security have a place in policy and can be used effectively without jeopardizing the ideals of either field.

    <summary type="text">Title: The European Union and the Roma : the production and sustainability of marginalization through social policy
Abstract: This dissertation discusses the tension between Roma and non-Roma communities within&#xD;
the EU. The recent news story about potential child abduction by Gypsies in Greece&#xD;
sparked immense interest about the Roma by the international community. The&#xD;
circumstances around the alleged child kidnapping revealed negative stereotypes and&#xD;
prejudices about the Roma community. This study was designed to provide insight into&#xD;
the historical origins of these negative stereotypes and prejudices. Understanding the&#xD;
historical development and significance of these negative stereotypes and prejudices&#xD;
provides clarification to the relationship between Roma and non-Roma communities.&#xD;
Furthermore, this study used these negative social images to understand the current&#xD;
social, economic, and political situations that are impacting the Roma community. The&#xD;
research question is how is the Roma identity socially constructed within the EU. The&#xD;
methods consisted of textual analysis and analyzed the history of antigypsyism, EU&#xD;
perspective in regards to the Roma, and news and social media about the Roma&#xD;
community.

    <summary type="text">Title: Economic implications of the Israeli-palestinian conflict on Egypt : case study : aid and cross-border trade
Abstract: This research studies one of the most complicated conflicts in the world – the&#xD;
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The protracted conflict has brought lots of suffering for both&#xD;
communities and the region as a whole. Such conflicts have a lot of effects not only on&#xD;
neighboring countries, but on the rest of the world as well. The dissertation focuses on&#xD;
Egypt and relation of its economy to the conflict. The study tries to present an in-depth&#xD;
review of major events which happened during the conflict and their relation to economic&#xD;
factors. It observes a transition from war mentality to friendly economic and social ties.&#xD;
Economic relations in the Middle East region are based on many aspects, and the&#xD;
conflict and its consequences play a huge role in their strengthening or weakening.&#xD;
Because Egypt was directly involved in the war, it tries to preserve its relations with both&#xD;
sides on an equal scale. The country plays a huge role in peacemaking efforts; it is a key mediator between the parties. The research will present a case study of American aid and&#xD;
cross-border trade in the Gaza Strip.&#xD;
This dissertation produced several research outcomes through an extensive study&#xD;
of relevant literature and further analysis. Also, a number of key findings, which include&#xD;
different aspects of relations among the two sides of the conflict, Egypt, the rest of the&#xD;
region and major international players were produced. These relations include a variety&#xD;
of important agreements which strengthened the relations among the key players. The&#xD;
research also draws attention to the need of resolution of the conflict, as it already&#xD;
touched many families, communities, and countries.
